Liliana Ortega, the executive director of human rights organization Committee of the Relatives of Victims of February 27, 1989 (Cofavic), said that the Venezuelan government has the "wrong" policy to "criminalize" the Inter-American system of human rights "because these institutions have significant international credibility."
"The fact of trying to criminalize those who prepare these reports is useless and a waste of energy, because these organizations have high international credibility not only because they produce very serious reports but because they have a history behind them."
"In the case of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR), there are thousands of lives that have been saved by their activities," Ortega said in an interview with private TV station Globovisión.
She added that government attempts at criminalizing and discrediting the IACHR show that the report is right.
