Exports of the Colombian cosmetic industry to Venezuela, which fell by 12 percent from 2008 to 2009, were closed by an alleged order of Venezuela's President Hugo Chávez, said on Tuesday the Colombian National Businessmen's Association (ANDI).

The organization of the Colombian private sector said in a statement that the Venezuelan government ceased to issue trade authorizations and health permits required for the sale of cosmetic products in Venezuelan territory.

"It is a factual measure, barely transparent, clearly discriminatory against Colombia's exports of cosmetics and running against Andean regulations still in force in the neighboring country," ANDI said.

The Colombian business association reported that Colombia's cosmetic exports to Venezuela decreased from USD 153 million in 2008 to 135 million in 2009.
