OAS meeting could put an end to hunger strike in Venezuela

Politics
The Organization of American States (OAS) will meet on Monday to address the requests that have been made to the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) to send a delegation to visit several countries to ascertain alleged violations of human rights. This meeting has created many expectations among the Venezuelan students who are on a hunger strike in the headquarters of the OAS.

"We are nervous. But we are sure that the pressure we have put on the international organizations will bring some positive results," said Gaby Arellano, the spokeswoman of the students.

She explained that the visit of a Red Cross team to provide care to one of the strikers represents international support. "There are 18 people on hunger strike, 12 of them are students and 6 members of the civil society. A cardiologist of the Red Cross saw Germán Cortés, one of the oil union leaders of the state of Zulia," she added.
