The contradictions of Paraguayan authorities with regard to the landing of a Venezuelan Air Force plane last week in Asunción have forced the government to request new reports from relevant authorities.
Paraguay's Vice President and acting President Federico Franco "will request more reports on the operation of a Venezuelan military plane at the Silvio Pettirossi airport in order to provide an official version to the public," the office of the President said in a statement, as reported by Efe.
The text says that Franco will also submit the letter to the Paraguayan Head of State, Fernando Lugo, who will return to Paraguay on Wednesday after attending UN World Food Summit. Franco is requesting the ruler to open a proceeding for "full clarification of circumstances" surrounding the incident.
Paraguayan Foreign Minister Héctor Lacognata said that Venezuela's C-130 Hercules plane made a technical stop. He added that the plane entered the country with 8 crew members. Meanwhile, a Paraguayan Air Force spokesman had said before that there were 12 crew members.
