Following the statements made by President Hugo Chávez urging Venezuelan people to prepare for an alleged armed conflict with Colombia, Caracas Metropolitan Mayor, Antonio Ledezma, said that war threats only cause "collective anxiety" in both countries.
"All these threats of sending aircrafts, tanks and troops to the border with Colombia only cause collective anxiety that affects not only Venezuelans but also the Colombian people," Ledezma said in an interview with Colombian Caracol Radio station, Efe reported.
The opposition mayor said that the Venezuelan ruler "plays with the soul fragility" of Latin American people. He warned that President Chávez's changing discourse "calling for war in the morning and calling for peace at night" is typical of Chávez's "irresponsible" behavior and way of acting.
