Venezuela's President Hugo Chávez on Sunday said that Gabriel Silva, Colombian Defense Minister, is "mentally retarded," after Silva released a statement accusing Venezuelan officials of allowing drug trafficking flights to depart from his country.

"The Colombian Defense minister is mentally retarded, but he does not know what he is doing. He follows instructions from the empire," referring to the United States. "Colombia is not ruled by Colombians. It is governed by the empire. They do whatever the US empire orders. Then, the Colombian Minister of Defense said this nonsense," Chávez added.

The Venezuelan ruler criticized the statements made by the Colombian Defense Minister, who claims that his country has managed to control drug trafficking.
