Venezuelan Vice President Ramón Carrizález on Wednesday urged Colombia to show the weapons that were seized from the Colombian Revolutionary Armed Forces (FARC) rebels. Colombian authorities claim that the arms come from Venezuela. Carrizález added that the Venezuelan government will take actions if it finds that there is arms trafficking.
He stressed that Venezuela has no commitments with illegal groups. He dismissed the allegations that the Venezuelan government has supplied arms to the guerrilla group.
Regarding the statements made by Colombia's President and Vice President Alvaro Uribe and Francisco Santos, respectively, Carrizález replied that the people who have accused Venezuela for the weapons found in the hands of the Colombian guerrilla are "cynical and shameless."
Carrizález added that the Colombian officials have made such statements to justify the unjustifiable, in reference to Colombia's decision to allow US troops in military bases located in Venezuela's neighbor country.
10:07 AM. DIPLOMACY. Admired by the Colombian guerrilla after his coup attempt in 1992, the then lieutenant colonel Hugo Chávez Frías received financial support by the Colombian Revolutionary Armed Forces (FARC) for his projects after his capture that year. This mostly explains the relationship and "debt" between the parties, as revealed by a paper of the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) of the United Kingdom.
