Caracas Mayor briefs Insulza about democracy in Venezuela

The Mayor and the governors took the opportunity to highlight all the mechanisms used by the government of Venezuela to attack the opposition and the violations of the Constitution

The mayor of Venezuela's capital, Antonio Ledezma, along with two opposition governors, César Pérez Vivas (Táchira state) and Pablo Pérez (Zulia state), met on Tuesday with José Miguel Insulza, the Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS). Insulza listened to the claims of the opposition leaders and received some documents presenting the situation of democracy in Venezuela.

"The OAS can not be a coroner who deals with dead democracies. The hemispheric organization must avoid the death of democracies. And that is what they (the government) are trying to do in Venezuela: to kill our democracy," said Caracas Metropolitan Mayor and the governors of the states of Táchira and Zulia upon leaving the meeting they held with Insulza.

The Mayor and the governors took the opportunity to highlight all the mechanisms used by the government of Venezuela to attack the opposition, the violations of the Constitution and the various situations that affect freedom of expression, private property, political parties, electoral system and other developments that violate Venezuela's Constitution, the office of the Metropolitan Mayor said in a press release.
