Chávez overrides US report on increasing drug traffic in Venezuela

“The United States is where drug traffic, marihuana sowing, drug abuse and violence have increased. This is the first drug trafficking country in the whole planet,” said the Venezuelan ruler

President Hugo Chávez termed "a new falsehood" a report released by the US Congress about significant growth in the volume of drug shipments from Venezuela and said that "Venezuela has started to hit hard on drug traffic."

"Venezuela is not a producing country; it is a transit country (…) In Colombia, drug production has grown indeed. Now, this is true. Particularly, Venezuela has started to hit hard on drug traffic after the departure of the (US Drug Enforcement Administration) DEA, which was crawling with drug traffickers and plotters," said the Head of State in La Paz, Bolivia.

"The United States is where drug traffic, marihuana sowing, drug abuse and violence have increased. This is the first drug trafficking country in the whole planet."
