Roberto Micheletti, who was appointed president by Honduras Congress on Sunday, asked the Honduran people not to worry about the "threats" of the presidents of Venezuela, Hugo Chávez; Ecuador, Rafael Correa, and Nicaragua, Daniel Ortega, after the army ousted elected President Manuel Zelaya.
"We should not worry about the threats posed by Hugo Chávez; we should no longer worry about the threats posed by Rafael Correa; we should no longer worry about the threats by Daniel Ortega", Micheletti, the former Congress speaker who was named interim president by the Honduran Congress to replace Zelaya, said.
Chávez, Correa and Ortega have urged the Hondurans to "revolt" against the government of Micheletti, and the Venezuelan leader has warned that he could "take actions" against Honduras to restore Zelaya.
