Major General Ernesto Cedeño, the Military Attorney General, reported that in a 30-day term, to the latest, a complaint will be formally filed against ex Defense Minister Raúl Isaías Baduel.

The senior officer explained that Baduel was detained because the Attorney General Office had enough evidence of an offense. Reference was made to the removal of funds belonging to the armed forces.

"At the time of filing the complaint, and in order to ensure the outcome of the criminal investigation, a bench warrant was requested; thus superseding the previous precautionary measures. He will appear before a judge. The law gives the Military Attorney General Office 30 days to file its formal claim and an extended term, if needed, of 15 days. However, as there is enough evidence, I think the extended term is not needed," the Military Attorney General explained.

The senior officer said that the detention met the legal requirements, in the absence of attacks or violence, as claimed by relatives of former minister Baduel.
