Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez met in Doha with his counterparts of Lebanon and Syria, as well as Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, said the Ministry of Communication and Information. The move is aimed at strengthening ties between countries opposed to US policies.

Over the 10 years of his administration, Chávez has reinforced ties with several anti-US countries. Chávez has accused Washington of meddling in the internal affairs of Latin America.

Chávez and Lebanese President Michel Suleiman "talked about strengthening the relationship between the two countries, based on the great empathy between the two leaders," said in a statement the Ministry of Communication, as reported by Reuters.

The press release did not provide further details about the talks. Syrian President Bashar Al Assad joined the meeting later.

Further, Chávez met with Muammar Gaddafi before the beginning of the summit between Arab and Latin American countries, which is held in Qatar.
