The US representative said on Wednesday at the Organization
of American States (OAS) that a recent attack on the main
synagogue in Venezuela was the result of the political climate
in the country that makes "intolerance move forward." His
claim was repealed by the Venezuelan representative.
"This disruptive event deserves a condemnation in the toughest
terms and serves as an unfortunate warning of what could happen
in a highly politicized environment where intolerance is allowed
to advance," said the Alternate Representative of the United
States to the OAS Lewis Amselem, AFP reported.
"An environment of inclusion and respect is of the essence
for a successful democratic government," said Amselem during
the ordinary session of the OAS Permanent Council based in
Washington.
Later, when taking the floor, Venezuelan ambassador at OAS
Roy Chaderton said: "Venezuela accepts the concern, but refuses
any hint that Venezuela's political climate" prompted the
anti-Semitic attack last Friday.
