State-run oil company Petróleos de Venezuela (Pdvsa)
has debts with service companies and after recognizing its
obligations, oil-sector officials are discussing several schemes
of payment.
Representatives of the oil industry are expected to meet
with suppliers in the coming days to propose them several
options. Oil industry sources have said that Pdvsa officials
are interested in paying the debts.
Further, the service providers have already raised the matter
to the Ministry of Economy and Finance to ensure that its
top officials can mediate in the negotiations. The companies
have also notified the banks about their financial status.
The service companies have planned to request agreements
with financial institutions on the forms of payment of outstanding
debts and on new financing schemes that allow them to continue
operations until the oil industry repays the accounts payable.
10:07 AM. DIPLOMACY. Admired by the Colombian guerrilla after his coup attempt in 1992, the then lieutenant colonel Hugo Chávez Frías received financial support by the Colombian Revolutionary Armed Forces (FARC) for his projects after his capture that year. This mostly explains the relationship and "debt" between the parties, as revealed by a paper of the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) of the United Kingdom.
