In a speech at the Venezuela's National Assembly, the President
of Vietnam, Nguyen Minh Triet, who has paid a two-day official
visit to Venezuela, praised on Wednesday the process led by
his counterpart Hugo Chávez.
When comparing the political future of Venezuela with the
prospects of his country, the Vietnamese president said in
a convinced tone that "the Venezuelan people will triumphantly
build the socialism of the 21st century."
"From the other side of the world, Vietnam has paid attention
to the steps taken by Venezuela towards the development of
its country. We are proud of the social and economic achievements
made by Venezuela in the last few years," said Nguyen Minh
Triet, as reported by Efe.
The Vietnamese president was surprised that Venezuela "which
was plunged in a crisis earlier this decade," is showing now
"a different face" thanks to the "sustained growth and social
policies, especially in the areas of education and health."
10:07 AM. DIPLOMACY. Admired by the Colombian guerrilla after his coup attempt in 1992, the then lieutenant colonel Hugo Chávez Frías received financial support by the Colombian Revolutionary Armed Forces (FARC) for his projects after his capture that year. This mostly explains the relationship and "debt" between the parties, as revealed by a paper of the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) of the United Kingdom.
