The organization Reporters without Borders (RSF) hailed on
Monday the fact that Venezuelan Minister of Communication
Andrés Izarra publicly rejected an attack on privately-owned
TV news channel Globovisión when covering a demonstration
in the 23 de enero district of Caracas, the Venezuelan capital.
Members of pro-government militant group "La Piedrita" attacked
reporters and members of a film crew last October 10, tried
to seize their cameras and tried to prevent police actions,
explained in a statement the NGO advocating press freedom.
Minister Andrés Izarra publicly slammed the "political
childishness" of the militants of "La Piedrita" while Interior
and Justice Minister Tarek El Aissami also strongly condemned
the attack, EFE reported.
RSF also welcomed the announcement made by Izarra on state-run
TV channel Venezolana Televisión of providing air time
for opposition candidates to November 23 regional and local
elections.
