The Argentinean government, tarnished by a scandal of corruption
and spying currently investigated in the United States, reacted
on Thursday and vented that the main informer of the FBI in
the trial was a criminal.
One year ago, Venezuelan-US businessman Guido Antonini Wilson
took in Venezuela a plane chartered by an Argentinean state-owned
company together with government officials of Argentina and
Venezuela. On arriving in Buenos Aires, he was caught in possession
of a suitcase filled with undeclared USD 800,000 in cash,
Reuters reported.
According to the US prosecutor that filed the charges in
Miami, the money was to sponsor the campaign of nowadays'
President of Argentina Cristina Fernández.
Antonini Wilson was not held in Argentina because the crime
was labeled as a customs-related offense and he returned to
Miami. There, the businessman met with alleged agents of the
Venezuelan government who promised him immunity provided that
he would agree to cover up the source and destination of the
money.
