Brazil's Foreign Minister Celso Amorim considers that "it
is possible and desirable" that the Brazilian Congress will
approve Venezuela's admission to the Market of the South (Mercosur),
the regional trade agreement among Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay
and Uruguay. Amorim thinks that the entry of Venezuela into
Mercosur would be approved after the upcoming municipal elections
in Brazil.
"I consider that the admission of Venezuela is very difficult
at this moment, because we are on the eve of an election throughout
the country," said Amorim in an interview published on Monday
in Argentinean newspaper Clarín, EFE reported.
"However, I think that the Brazilian Congress will make a
positive decision after the elections in November. It is possible
and desirable," Amorim added.
10:07 AM. DIPLOMACY. Admired by the Colombian guerrilla after his coup attempt in 1992, the then lieutenant colonel Hugo Chávez Frías received financial support by the Colombian Revolutionary Armed Forces (FARC) for his projects after his capture that year. This mostly explains the relationship and "debt" between the parties, as revealed by a paper of the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) of the United Kingdom.
