Ex Venezuelan Ambassador to Paraguay sued for sexual harassment

Country

The Paraguayan judiciary informed the Venezuelan Embassy in Paraguay about a complaint filed by a former employee with the Venezuelan mission in Asuncion against ex Venezuelan Ambassador José Huerta Castillo.

Mancuello Giménez, a Paraguayan citizen, brought an action in a penal court against the Venezuelan ambassador for sexual harassment and now filed charges in a civil court for mental or psychological harm to the image and morals. Giménez requested approximately USD 50,000, reported Paraguay's newspaper ABC.

The case is heard by the Court of First Instance in Civil and Commercial Matters of 7th Turn, headquartered in Asunción, and presided over by Judge Hugo Bécker.

Mancuello was an administrative officer at the Venezuelan Embassy and she complained that she was fired because she refused to accept his sexual advances.

Huerta Castillo was appointed as Venezuelan Ambassador to Paraguay by President Hugo Chávez in 2004. He was replaced two years later and nominated to the Venezuelan Embassy in Costa Rica, whose government did not accept the appointment.
