Colombia asks Venezuela to revise vehicles quota

The Colombian government is planning to ask Venezuela to "revise" the quota of cars sold to Venezuela, which was reduced last March from 62,000 to 16,000 units, as well as the payment in arrears of sales for USD 500 million, reported on Monday Colombian Minister of Foreign Trade, Industry and Tourism Luis Guillermo Plata.

The official told reporters that he and his Venezuelan counterpart would meet in approximately one-month term.

"(Venezuelan) President (Hugo) Chávez clearly understood that (decreasing sales of vehicles assembled in Colombia) was not enough for Colombian needs and promised to have a look and work on it," said Plata, as quoted by Efe.

During the ministerial meeting, the issue of overdue payments by the Foreign Exchange Management Committee (Cadivi) will be addressed. "Many companies have exported to Venezuela and have received no payment and this is starting to make a significant impact on the cash flow of each of them," said Plata.
