Because addressing subjects that prompt division is not very
wise during a reconciliation process, the issue of the computers
property of slain leader of the Colombian Revolutionary Armed
Forces (FARC) Raúl Reyes will not be in the agenda of
Friday's meeting between Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez
and his Colombian counterpart Álvaro Uribe.
In any case, analysts think that this matter will mark Colombia-Venezuela
future relations.
Félix Arellano, an expert in international affairs and
scholar with the Central University of Venezuela (UCV), explained
that the bilateral projects to be initialed by both presidents
in western Falcón state in the area of energy and infrastructure
"will have to go slowly and calmly, because there is the need
to see first if President Chávez gains confidence in
the face of the information related to the FARC."
He added that if the Venezuelan president "feels that the
issue of the Reyes' laptop is being silenced, he could boost
the bilateral relation;" otherwise, actions to stop said projects
could be expected. "There is some crack that may be opened,
which is not necessarily in the hands of President Uribe,"
said Arellano.
Oil Scenario
HYDROCARBONS Rafael Ramírez, Venezuela's Minister of Petroleum and Mining and president of state-run oil company Petróleos de Venezuela (Pdvsa) specified that oil exports to China would be equal to current shipments of Venezuelan oil to the United States.
