Ex Colombian Defense Minister: Venezuelans have never been friends with FARC

Colombian Senator and former Defense Minister Marta Lucía Ramírez said that the people of Venezuela have never been friends with the Colombian Revolutionary Armed Forces (FARC).

Ramírez also said that kidnapping increased in Venezuela by 48 percent in 2007.

"When you examine the databases of kidnapped people in Venezuela, you note that most of them have been detained in Venezuela's border states," she said.

The former Colombian official admitted that she was "hurt" and "concerned" by this situation and asserted that the FARC feel besieged in Colombia and they believe they are welcome in Venezuela.

However, she added, in statements made in Spain that were released by the Colombian Senate press office, "unfortunately people in border regions are already suffering the negative impact."
