Spanish head of government José Luis Rodríguez
Zapatero advised Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez one
more time that he should respect Spanish institutions, following
Chávez's renewed criticism of the King of Spain.
"The relationship with Venezuela and President Chávez
is based on two principles: Chávez should respect Spanish
institutions, as well as the Spanish government does respect
the Venezuelan ones. A positive relation is most convenient,"
said Zapatero during a press conference when queried about
Chávez's recent remarks on the King of Spain.
The King of Spain "thinks he is superior and fails to understand
what is going on in Latin America," said Chávez last
Sunday during his TV and radio show "Aló, Presidente."
Then, he recalled that King Juan Carlos suggested him to shut
out during the Ibero-American Summit held last November in
Chile, AFP quoted.
On that occasion, Chávez accused former Spanish president
José María Aznar of being a fascist.
"If Hugo Chávez goes to the summit between the European
Union and Latin America, I will very likely have a talk with
him," added Zapatero.
