The money presumably came from Venezuelan state-run oil firm Pdvsa. It was allegedly taken from such company to Maiquetía International Airport by one of Pdvsa's security staff, Argentinean daily La Nación stated

A cash-suitcase containing USD 800,000, which was confiscated from Guido Antonini Wilson last August, had presumably come from Venezuelan state-run oil company Petróleos de Venezuela (Pdvsa). It was allegedly taken from such company to Maiquetía International Airport by one of Pdvsa's security staff, the Argentinean newspaper La Nación stated.

Based on the information disclosed by this newspaper, which quotes Venezuelan journalist Nelson Bocaranda Sardi, a cash-suitcase containing US 800,000 was watched over by a man working in the Prevention Management and Loss Control Department of Pdvsa, a division responsible for providing the company with security services. According to Bocaranda, the man is apparently Reiter Ramírez, a bodyguard of Pdvsa CEO and Minister of Energy and Petroleum Rafael Ramírez.

Further, late in April, once one of the three defendants -Rodolfo Wanseele Paciello, an Uruguayan- pleaded guilty, he informed the Attorney General's Office about the names of three officials of the Directorate for Intelligence, Security and Prevention Services (Disip) allegedly involved in the case. According to the court's files, one of them is a "high-ranking official" who met with defendant Franklin Durán. The official presumably instructed Durán to conceal the Venezuelan government's involvement in trying to bring in Argentina USD 800,000 in cash that were seized from Antonini Wilson.

A second official had seemingly contacted Wanseele to let him know about the arrival in the United States of a fourth suspect, Antonio José Cánchica, who is still at large. Cánchica would oversee the plot's course. In the meanwhile, a third official got in touch with the Uruguayan to provide him with information on Cánchica's physical features.
