CARACAS, Wednesday December 05, 2007 | Update
Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez said on Wednesday that
he viewed as "a good signal" a communication forwarded by
the Spanish government to congratulate the Venezuelan people
and ruler for the democratic, civic performance during the
referendum on the draft constitutional reform.
He explained that the letter was sent to him through Spanish
Minister of Foreign Affairs Miguel Ángel Moratinos.
Moratinos called Venezuelan Ambassador to Spain Alfredo Toro
Hardy to transmit him the congratulations for the civic behavior
during the referendum, DPA reported.
Chávez said that the move could improve Venezuela-Spain
relations, which were endangered some days ago due to the
incident featured by Spain's King Juan Carlos and Chávez
during the Ibero-American Summit held in Chile. On that occasion,
the King asked the Venezuelan ruler to keep his mouth shut.
