Mismatch between NGO Súmate and CNE numbers

Based on the results from the election surveillance system set forth by NGO Súmate during the referendum on the draft constitutional reform, the difference between the No and the Yes vote amounts to 8.61 percent, instead of 1.4 percent, as recorded in the first bulletin of the National Electoral Council (CNE).

Súmate director María Corina Machado explained that the numbers managed by them mirror the minutes of 595 polling centers across the nation, where the sentinel project was implemented with the participation of more than 4,000 volunteers.

Machado said that the results reported to the organization have a 3-percent margin of error. This means that the difference could be reduced to 5 percent or increased to 11 percent. At the same time, she noted that each individual report of the minutes would be matched with the final numbers to be disclosed by CNE, in order to find the actual difference.

The director added that the degree of participation in the referendum totaled 54.10 percent, which accounts for abstention of 45.84 percent.
