CARACAS, Sunday December 02, 2007 | Update
Brigadier General Jesús Gregorio González, the head
of the operational strategic command of the National Armed Force
(FAN), said the polling day is passing through normally all
over the country, adding that up to 4:00 pm 45 people were detained
nationwide.
He explained that 35 people were detained in connection with
voting-related offenses, such as tearing voting vouchers up
or damaging automated balloting machines. He added that one
person was detained for carrying a weapon illegally and six
were detained while trying to cast their ballot twice.
"Despite these detentions, in general, the balloting day has
been quiet. Congratulations to the Venezuelan people for their
display of political maturity."
He reminded that "rallies at the balloting centers are prohibited.
Once the voting process has been completed, the citizens may
witness audits, depending on the dimensions of the premises
of the balloting center."
