Students rejecting President Hugo Chávez's proposed
changes to the Constitution are gathering in the campus of
the Central University of Venezuela (UCV) and then are going
to march to the Bolívar Avenue, where they are to close
their anti-reform campaign ahead of next December 2 referendum.
President-elect of the UCV Federation of Students' Councils
(FCU) Ricardo Sánchez said the youth are optimistic and
happy. He denied rumors that university students have plans
to stay on Bolívar Avenue until Friday in order to unchain
violent clashes with Chávez's supporters.
"Today, we are going to crowd the Bolívar Avenue, and
tomorrow we are going to crowd all of the avenues in the countryside,"
he said.
Regarding rumors that pro-government groups are waiting for
anti-Chávez demonstrators in several places in Caracas,
he said. "If we meet, then we are going to march together.
All we want is reconciliation and a united country."
