CARACAS, Monday November 19, 2007 | Update
Colombian Senator Piedad Córdoba Monday told French
TV station LCI she has "restrictions regarding their role"
of conveying the proof of life of French-Colombian citizen
Ingrid Betancourt, a hostage held the rebel Colombian Revolutionary
Armed Forces (FARC), and she would rather let "President Hugo
Chávez inform about this issue."
Córdoba's statements came during a phone interview with
the TV station shortly after her arrival in Paris, AFP reported.
Córdoba, together with the Venezuelan ruler, are mediating
for the Colombian government and the FARC to reach an agreement
to swap hostages for FARC rebels who are in jail.
Córdoba was commissioned by Chávez to deliver to
Caracas a proof of life of Betancourt.
Chávez is engaged in an international tour and had to
leave Caracas before the evidence came. Therefore, Córdoba
had to travel to Caracas and then to Paris, where she is meeting
with Chávez and French President Nicolas Sarkozy.
