Venezuelans are entitled to criticize any sensationalist
news or pictures in the media viewed by them as improper,
said Mary Clen Stelling, a member of NGO Media Observatory.
"Citizens may voice their criticism at users' committees,
letters to the editor or take any other action to protest,"
answered Stelling, when queried about a ruling issued last
Thursday by the Constitutional Court, Supreme Tribunal of
Justice (TSJ).
Based on the court decision, local daily newspapers El Progreso
and El Luchador, based in southern Bolívar state, will
be unable to publish any photo of "bloody events as the result
of any crime or otherwise."
Stelling noted that there is the need to enhance insightful
reading and the organization of media users committees "to
lambast such releases that may harm the people," reported
official news agency ABN.
