CARACAS, Monday July 23, 2007 | Update
University students last July 22 demonstrated in four major
malls in Caracas, namely Sambil, El Recreo, Galerías
Ávila and Metrocenter, to advocate respect for the right
to life.
While not many, the demonstrators called the attention of
the people in malls shopping, eating, going to the movies,
or simply taking a walk.
They shouted "students for life," wore white clothes and
stamped a number on their foreheads. In this way, they rejected
personal insecurity plaguing Venezuela.
"We should not get used to see 40 people killed on a weekly
basis. We have stamped a number on our foreheads to detach
from the coldness of numbers and make people see that every
number represents a dead body. Most victims, unfortunately,
are young people," said Freddy Guevara, leader of the Andrés
Bello Catholic University student council.
