In a 3-mile march in Caracas on June 27, several thousands
Venezuelans joined journalists on their National Day to advocate
freedom of expression and other civil rights undermined in
the country.
Representatives for news media, professional associations,
student movement, political parties and civil groups took
part in the demonstration.
The march departing from Plaza Venezuela, north Caracas,
and ended in Baralt Avenue, west Caracas, outside the headquarters
of RCTV, a 53-year-old private television station that stopped
broadcast last May 27, following the government's refusal
to renew its broadcast license.
In Baralt Avenue, journalists demanded resumption of RCTV
broadcasts on open signal, among other petitions.
