Opposition Un Nuevo Tiempo party is prepared to take part
in a march called for Wednesday by NGO "Periodistas Unidos
por la Libertad de Expresión" (Journalists united for
freedom of expression), on the occasion of the Journalist
Day, reported Tuesday Gerardo Blyde, a party leader.
Blyde claimed that his party would not accept any demeaning
names of the event, labeled as a destabilizing march. "The
only one who has rode roughshod over the rule of law, the
Constitution, has been President (Hugo) Chávez with his
proposal of constitutional reform and also, of course, by
shutting down a TV channel, restricting this way citizens'
freedom of expression."
The leader of Un Nuevo Tiempo warned that the draft constitutional
reform prepared by the Executive Power would make both the
government and President Chávez "stronger and more powerful,"
and will enable the ruler to impose his single vision of the
country.
