Venezuelan Embassy to Washington Wednesday rejected a US
Senate draft resolution on President Hugo Chávez's Government
decision not to renew a broadcast license to private TV channel
Radio Caracas Televisión (RCTV), reported Ambassador
Bernardo Álvarez.
In a letter to the Senate, the Venezuelan diplomatic mission
said the move against RCTV was not based on the media's editorial
stance distinct from the thinking of the Government of Venezuela.
It was an "independent decision" within the Government scope
of fulfilling what is established in the Venezuelan Constitution,
with a view to democratize the radio spectrum in the country.
Álvarez stated that the US senators "have echoed" a
disinformation campaign on the case, thus the Venezuelan diplomats
pointed out in the letter that the move does not amount to
a confiscation.
