A group of journalists, members of the National Union of
Press Workers (SNTP) and information media students went Friday
to the headquarters of the National Telecommunications Commission
(Conatel) in support of TV channel Radio Caracas Televisión
(RCTV).
The delegation handed over a notice on behalf of freedom
of expression and RCTV following the government decision not
to renew a 53-year-old broadcast license.
"There is a citizen service office. We delivered a letter
containing the supporting signatures The communiqué was
prepared jointly by the student councils of multiple universities,
scholars and the Communications Research Center (CIC) at Andrés
Bello Catholic University (UCAB), NGO Espacio Público,
the trade union and NGO Expresión LIbre, among others,"
said Espacio Público managing director Carlos Correa.
"The communiqué just requests reversal of the move,
because it seems to us that it may affect adversely the status
of freedom of expression in Venezuela," he added.
