A survey of pollster Datanálisis found that near 70
percent of Venezuelans are against non-renewal of a broadcast
license for TV network Radio Caracas Televisión (RCTV)
expiring late May, and only 16.4 percent favors the government
measure, AFP quoted.
According to the pollster director Luis Vicente León,
non-renewal of the license for RCTV, founded in 1953, "is
the most rejected political action that (President Hugo) Chávez
has taken during his eight-year term in office."
"If the government decides eventually not to renew the RCTV
license, Chávez will not escape unscathed as to his popularity,"
León told a group of foreign correspondents.
The survey was conducted last week in a sample of 2,000 people,
with an error margin of 2.2 percent.
León explained that the rejection to the idea of RCTV
going off the air is related, above all, to free choice, and
also because the channel has a large audience.
