Representatives of every Chilean political sector rebutted
Tuesday the demeaning Monday of Venezuelan President Hugo
Chávez to Organization of American States (OAS) Secretary-General,
Chilean José Miguel Insulza.
Last Monday, during a ceremony where incoming ministers were
sworn in, Chávez lashed out at Insulza and even urged
him to quit.
On January 5th, Insulza asked the Venezuelan government to
think it over. Reference was made to the government decision
not to renew a broadcasting license to private TV channel
RCTV, branded as "coupster."
Insulza's comments annoyed the ruler, who called him an "idiot"
and "empire viceroy." Additionally, he also accused the secretary-general
of meddling into internal affairs, Efe reported.
Chilean Minister of Foreign Affairs Alejandro Foxley told
journalists that he lamented the "comments on the OAS Secretary-General,"
Reuters disclosed.
