CARACAS, Monday November 13, 2006 | Update
Bolivian Defense Minister Wálker San Miguel announced
that the military aid from Venezuela under an agreement entered
into by the governments of both nations last May will be postponed
until 2007.
The minister told Bolivian daily La Razón that the postponement
was due to the election next December, where Venezuelan President
Hugo Chávez is running for re-election, Efe quoted.
The agreement executed by Chávez and Bolivian President
Evo Morales provides for construction of a river port and
a quarter, both on the Brazilian-Bolivian border.
The fluvial terminal at Quijarro port, over river Paraguay,
near the Paraguayan-Bolivian border, will be used for export
of goods, particularly soy and oil. The quarter in the city
of Riberalta will be used for interdiction of weapons, drugs
and natural resources, San Miguel explained.
