Venezuela far from nuclear technology

It is possible that Venezuela has both the desire and the money, but lacks infrastructure and technology to develop nuclear weapons, said Wednesday Swedish Hans Blix, chairman of the Weapons of Mass Destruction Commission (WMDC).

"Two things are needed to develop nuclear weapons: infrastructure and technology," Blix commented during a visit to Brazil, AP reported.

"In the case of Sweden, we have the infrastructure, but not willingness. In the case of Venezuela, they can have willingness, but not infrastructure," Blix told reporters at the Swedish Embassy in Brasilia.

Countries like Syria and Saud Arabia are in the same situation, he said.

Asked if he was worried about close relations of the Venezuelan Government with Iran and North Korea, Blix answered, "Venezuela is far, very far away from the ability to develop weapons."
