Morales vows unconditional support to Venezuela at UN

Bolivian President Evo Morales promised to support "to death" Venezuela's bid to get a temporary seat at the United Nations (UN) Security Council, DPA reported.

"We will support Venezuela at the Security Council to death," Morales told foreign reporters.

Guatemala and Venezuela are competing for the position that will be left vacant by Argentina on December 31st, amidst one of the most intense lobbying in UN history.

The Government of Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez has accused the United States of using "blackmail and pressure" to boost the candidacy of Guatemala.

"There are always threats, intimidation, blackmail," Morales said in this connection.

"Sure enough, some countries have the right to exert such pressure. It is their right. I will say no more. But many Latin American countries did decide to back Venezuela for the Security Council," he added.
