CARACAS, Tuesday July 25, 2006 | Update
The Ministry of the Environment and the Ministry of Basic
Industries and Mining granted recently a concession to Russian
Al Rus to exploit kaolin and install an ignition and refining
plant, southern Bolívar state governor Francisco Rangel
Gómez reported.
The governor supplied the information during the visit of
President Hugo Chávez to Volgograd, Russia, and noted
that an investment of USD 200 million is envisaged, official
news agency ABN quoted.
In June 2005, a business round with Russia held in Venezuela
yielded about USD 650 million in investments, following execution
of 13 instruments.
On that occasion, a letter of intent was signed to build
a kaolin ignition and refining plant in Bolívar state.
10:07 AM. DIPLOMACY. Admired by the Colombian guerrilla after his coup attempt in 1992, the then lieutenant colonel Hugo Chávez Frías received financial support by the Colombian Revolutionary Armed Forces (FARC) for his projects after his capture that year. This mostly explains the relationship and "debt" between the parties, as revealed by a paper of the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) of the United Kingdom.
