CARACAS, Thursday July 20, 2006 | Update
Following the arrangements made by Venezuelan diplomatic
authorities in the region, almost 400 people, most of them
Venezuelan, who were evacuated from Lebanon arrived early
Thursday in Damascus.
According to a press release from the Venezuelan Foreign
Ministry, the individuals, divided into two groups, entered
Syria across the border points of Masnaa and Arida. The Venezuelan
embassies to Lebanon and Syria worked hard to attain the goal.
Both groups were evacuated safely in buses escorted by the
Venezuelan diplomats through the city of Damascus.
Once in Damascus, the evacuees provisionally lodged in three
facilities -an educational center, a military school and the
new offices of the Venezuelan embassy.
