Colombian Foreign Affairs minister Carolina Barco arrived
early on Thursday in Venezuela to hold talks with her Venezuelan
counterpart Alí Rodríguez Araque on Venezuela recent
move to leave the Andean Community of Nations (CAN) and the
Group of Three (G3).
"We are very happy to attend this meeting," Barco told reporters
in a brief statement before the meeting, AFP reported. Following
the talks, they are going to offers a news conference.
Barco was accompanied by Colombian ministers of Industry
and Commerce, Jorge Humberto Botero; and Energy and Mines,
Luis Ernesto Mejía; as well as the Colombian ambassador
in Caracas Enrique Vargas, AFP informed.
Venezuelan Energy and Petroleum minister, Rafael Ramírez;
Infrastructure vice-minister, Álvaro Carrasco; and Foreign
Affairs vice-minister, Pável Rondón also attended
the meeting.
The heads of the Presidential Committee for Negotiations
(Cobeg) and the Presidential Committee on Integration and
Border Issues (Copiaf) were also present.
Coban was created in 2005. During this second meeting, the
committee is to address six topics, namely, integration, trade,
energy, geographical integration, bilateral mechanism, environment
and consular affairs, Rondón said late Wednesday.
He added that "a feasibility report on the construction of
the multi-purpose pipeline and oil pipeline stretching from
Cabrutas to Tumaco in Colombia, on the Pacific Coast, will
be presented," Rondón added.
Besides, the two countries are to discuss the construction
of a gas pipeline linking Punta Ballena in Colombia to Maracaibo,
in Venezuelan northwestern state of Zulia. Rondón reminded
that construction works are to start next July 8th.
