Peruvian candidate for president Alan García challenged
Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez to a debate on CNN and
told him that speaking is easy "when your belly is full of
oil."
"If he wants to have an argument with me, I am ready to do
it through CNN. I am prepared to do it, but let us discuss
clearly the economic models that he has in Venezuela and concerning
what would happen if he stopped selling oil to the United
States," García said, AFP reported.
President Chávez threatened Friday to recall the Venezuelan
ambassador to Lima if García is elected president, and
called him "corrupt, scoundrel and thief."
Oil Scenario
HYDROCARBONS Rafael Ramírez, Venezuela's Minister of Petroleum and Mining and president of state-run oil company Petróleos de Venezuela (Pdvsa) specified that oil exports to China would be equal to current shipments of Venezuelan oil to the United States.
