The Venezuelan Embassy to Lima protested Tuesday against
a coverage last Sunday on a Peruvian TV channel. During the
broadcast, the Government of President Hugo Chávez was
accused of outrage and a warning was issued about the danger
of a similar situation in Peru in the event of Nationalist
candidate Ollanta Humala winning the election.
"We disagree with such reporting. Rather than playing its
social role of information and showing the truth, it swamps
citizens with statements that lack any validity, grounds and
investigation," a press release issued by the embassy stated.
"A clearly pejorative commentary about the Venezuelan revolutionary
process was broadcast. Not only biased, doubtful information
was issued, but also discriminating and demeaning reference
was made of some Venezuelans, without respecting their quality
of human beings," the communiqué added, as quoted by
DPA.
The coverage made in Caracas by TV show "Panorama" of channel
Panamericana, criticized bitterly Humala's candidacy and commented,
among others, alleged Venezuelan government chasing after
the media and presumed incentive for squatting.
The commentary featured Venezuelan journalists and ordinary
people who accused Chávez of heading an authoritarian
government that makes no room for dissent.
