Italy asks Venezuela to fight kidnapping

Italian Foreign Minister has requested the Venezuelan Government to make a great effort to finish off the abduction wave suffered by Italians in Venezuela, and regretted the murder of Filippo Sindoni, a noted Italian-Venezuelan businessman.

Last Tuesday, men wearing police uniforms kidnapped Sindoni, 74, in Maracay, the capital city of central Aragua state. Hours later, early Wednesday, his body was found in Carora, western Lara state.

"The Italian community lost a symbol of courage, entrepreneurship and generosity," Foreign Minister Gianfranco Fini said in a press release in Rome.

"The Italian Government will strive to define the circumstances and find the individuals guilty in the murder of one of the most salient Italian citizens in Venezuela."

Venezuelan authorities are expected to make every effort to end with the criminal scourge of abductions of our citizens, Fini added, as quoted by AP.
