Venezuelan ambassador to the Vatican Iván Rincón Wednesday said he was pleased with Pope Benedict XVI move to designate Caracas Archbishop Jorge Urosa Sabino as cardinal.

The diplomat congratulated the Venezuelan Catholic Church and expressed confidence in Urosa Sabino's capability to meet his new obligations.

Rincón stressed Urosa Sabino's human quality and trajectory and said he is certain the new Venezuelan cardinal is to complete a great job for the benefit of Venezuelans.

"Monsignor Urosa is a man with a great formation in the Catholic Church. Our country needs a cardinal with his spiritual conditions," Rincón ensured.

He underscored that Urosa Sabino has conducted evangelizing activities without making any distinctions based on the people's political trends.
