Alvin Lezama, director of the National Telecommunications Commission (Conatel) Wednesday explained that administrative procedures have been opened for seven TV stations amid efforts to make over the country's radio spectrum.

During a news conference, the official claimed that the moves have been conducted respecting the right to due process. During this stage, TV channels will be allowed to submit evidence, thus exercising their right to defense.

"We are considering annulment -as the most stringent penalty- of licenses for the use of radio spectrum," Lezama stated, adding that this action or others may be adopted depending on the results of investigations.

Administrative procedures could be completed in approximately two months. Lezama asserted that purge would comprise other telecommunication services.

He reminded that licenses are granted by the Infrastructure Ministry and will be issued in accordance with State policies.
