US Department of State Spokesman Sean McCormack clarified
Tuesday that the statements made by Reverend Pat Robertson
"do not represent the US government policy."
During a press conference aired on an US news TV channel,
the official explained that Robertson's is a "private citizen's"
insight that is not consistent with the government position.
"We do not share his points of view and it seems to us that
his comment is imprudent," McCormack stated.
Robertson pointed out that Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez
should be assassinated, because it was cheaper than wage a
war to prevent hemispheric destabilization.
The spokesman emphasized, "any accusation or hint that we
are considering hostile actions against Venezuela or its government
-any idea in this regard- is completely unfounded."
McCormack urged Venezuela to play a positive role in relations
with other countries in the hemisphere, and noted that the
Robertson's remarks are "inappropriate."
