The Colombian National Television Commission (CNTV) blocked
satellite access to Telecapital, a government channel that
rebroadcasts Telesur signal.
The hemispheric news system boosted by Venezuela started
operations last July 24th, with programming including documentary
films, news coverage and a number of journalist works that
highlight the Latin American people, as explained in the Monday
edition of Semana magazine.
The decision may result in clashes between national authorities
and Bogotá town council, led by socialist Luis Eduardo
Garzón, the weekly added, quoting a CNTV source.
The Committee decided not to grant access to the satellite
of the Bogotá channel. Therefore, Telesur programs could
not be seen in most part of Colombia. However, signals were
authorized from TRO, a small channel operating to the East,
on the Colombian-Venezuelan border.
"It is a Colombian domestic issue and it is not our business.
We are called to continue working, producing more spaces that
show us, Latin Americans, our culture, from our own point
of view," Telesur director general Aram Aharonian said on
the phone.
